ERP Competition and Challenges for SMEs/SMBs

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) market situation is completely different from large organizations. The SME market is characterized by a lot of competitors, who are trying to secure leader position in the market. The competition is hard in this segment and everybody is ready to fight to get a new customer, to increase a sell and to retain customers. As SMEs are less earning as compared to large organization, they used to keep a little margin and they have little earning capacity.

SME Companies take about 6 months to two years for selection of software for implementation. Vendor will have to wait and ensure awareness. They will have to keep pushing the same success buttons: ERP for similar sector, same vertical, state of the art solution and low cost price, lower TCO (Total Cost of Ownership). SMEs will not wait for vendors, they will not call for demo, presentations, and vendors have to push all the time.

SME customers are hardworking, modest, simple minded etc. They work 24x7x365, to compete with their competitor as in SME competition is very hard. They have more knowledge than anybody. Their approach is very modest and polite. They have proud of their business activities. They like very simple system for their organization. They are straightforward and flexible. They can change themselves or their business processes according to business need or environment.

For SME, it is very difficult to maintain the processes since during implementation there are too many functionality and concept changes. It is very necessary to know the available resources and their utilization in system. There are too many bad stories of implementation failures. You will have to very careful in selecting system for your organization. Industry specific system has no problem or fewer problems to stand up. ERP system covers the latest best practices and process need for a specific sector.
